"Look, I liked Hot & Sweet as much as everyone else in the store." He responded, when questioned by authorities. "Why would I want her gone?"
Why, indeed. Plain Mustard believes that Mr. Dijon felt threatened by his sassy neighbor.
"People were bored with Dijon. He became increasingly hostile after Hot & Sweet arrived. Customers wanted something other than Dijon to put on their turkey sandwiches. Plus she had killer legs... he just couldn't compete."
Authorities are currently questioning Trader Joe's employees for more information into Hot & Sweet's mysterious disappearance. At this time, Mr. Dijon is not the primary suspect, but lead Investigator Diana is asking anyone who knows anything about the case to contact her immediately.
"It's getting to be a dire situation." She said, in an interview this morning. "I'm almost to the bottom of my last bottle!"

oh no! you better contact the fbi and put out a multi-state alert!! this is a serious situation ;)
I think I saw a couple at the TJ in my hood. Dunno how long they will last though :)
I'm putting out an APB on hot and sweet mustard. This case will be solved!
I've just been officially informed that the Hot & Sweet Mustard has been discontinued.
The search for a new honey mustard begins now...
OH NO!!! This is one of my top 5 favorite TJ's products. Those assholes probably discontinued it, like they do with EVERYTHING ELSE THAT I LIKE.
it left the DC store months ago. i almost cried.
yes,,,it appears to be true and is apparently due to a distributor issue. let's hope it gets resolved and is only temporarily gone from the shelf of TJs.
OMG!!! It's gone from the shelves in San Diego, too. Does anyone know who makes it for Trader Joe's? Perhaps we could buy it elsewhere... I NEED that mustard.
Here's the official word I got from TJ's. I eat that stuff by the spoonful and I as I type this, I've got a concoction of my stove...trying to make my own. Slow sales my arse!
Hello Annie,
Thank you for contacting us. We are sorry to hear that we have
discontinued a favorite product of yours.
At this time the Hot and Sweet Mustard has been discontinued due to
slow sales in all of our stores. This product was specifically produced
for Trader Joe's and is no longer being manufactured. Trader Joe's has
currently sold through all existing stock of this product.
We will forward your comments and request to bring this product back to
our Buying Department and that will be taken into future consideration.
Thank you for shopping at Trader Joe's .

So sad! Thanks for posting that, Annie! Maybe we should all contact Trader Joe's about bringing it back! I just finished my final jar and it was pretty devastating. My turkey sandwiches will never be the same again... :(
Having worked for Trader Joe's, I know your pain all too well, from both sides of the checkout counter. Some of my favorite products were discontinued while I worked there, and I was left trying to cope without staples such as UFOs. The Hot & Sweet Mustard was another favorite, and I've been without for some time. It was through an attempt to acquire more that I learned it had been discontinued (a google search turned up your blog post). Now I must excuse myself to cry silently for a while. (Incidentally, there was a honey mustard I'd had in the past that was almost as good. Safeway carried it, so Von's should have it in your area. If only I could remember the name of the brand ....)
I got the same email response as Diana when I wrote to TJs. Perhaps if more of us were to write to them, they'd realize what a colossal mistake it was to discontinue the best mustard ever made.....
I just checked back to see if anyone had found anything resembling the missing product and saw Diana's post. I got the identical form email (??) from TJ when I wrote asking for the mustard. Maybe if more of us were to write to TJs?...
I'm another Hot & Sweet lover...it sold out around cleveland in July-ish and I was lucky enough to find some more in two of the Vegas Trader Joe's...I was hoping it was maybe just not being sold in the Midwest...ohh well.
What email is everyone sending their complaints to?
what a bummer... i have been going to TJ's less and less recently as i have found that the price to quality ratio is getting closer to the regular chain supermarkets. i seem to find better quality and better bargains elsewhere these days... that said, there were always my go-to items that only TJ's had... the hot & sweet mustard was one of them... sorry to see it go, and i suppose i'll be going to Trader Joe's even less frequently now.... :(
pearlbasehoreWe are so upset the mustard is gone -- I've been putting off a search on the web in fear of finding that it is gone for good. I hope I find a decent substitute elsewhere!!! Beaver is good but very different from TJ's. Why??? whyyyy? The horror ...
I could not be more upset, this is a travesty! My carrots will never taste as good again!
Just make the stuff-it is super easy-
Mix 2 cans Dry Coleman's Mustard with 1 cup cider vinegar-let sit out overnight
Next day add 2 beaten eggs and 3/4 cups sugar-cook in double boiler 6-8 minutes or until thick-pour in jars-GREAT as gifts
